The Fireflies are Out
The fireflies are out and lit.
Swiveling to catch them flashing,
Better than fireworks I think.
Not as colorful but speaking,
Sighing, whispering to the air
Here I am, come find me, wanting
You to make me whole this evening.
It's been so lonely in the dark.
I float around the trees and flash
My heart in sync with fireflies,
Desperately hoping for you
To see me and come to the dance.

A Tango
We met at the ancient café
On the bank of the small green lake.
We tried to throw stones across it,
But never reached the other side,
One flat stone after the other,
Having fun throwing and watching.
Light conversation at the start.
The flirting was hidden from view.
Enjoying the time, until dusk.
The stories we told disappeared.
The air itself was heavier,
Swirling around our hidden thoughts.
For each of us our deepest dream,
Yearning after something needed.
Then the midnight music sounded,
Beginning to think of a life
That might be together, how strange,
Somehow delicious in richness.
We thought of the brand new stories
To tell our four future children,
Recording it for their pleasure.
The dancing started, a surprise,
A tango, separate and one,
While together we clasped our hands.
Dancing over lake and forest,
Embracing in the clouds, we were
A musical hymn, an organ,
Its massive sound resonating,
Holding us in its bone deep voice,
Connecting us to our essence.
It was a night of rhapsody
But at the dawn, the mood had changed.
The music had faded; we were
Holding each other, still kissing.
The stones bringing us down again
To the bank where we lay entwined.
The lake and café where we met,
The stories we told on the shore,
The musical future we’d seen,
A couple transcending it all,
We dreamed a dance that cast a spell
A tango through a loving life.
